Our Story

Paper Box and Specialty Company was founded by brothers Gerrit, Abe, and Jan VanDerPuy in 1929 as a rigid setup paper box manufacturer. From the humble beginnings of a single production line operating out of a small rented space, we have grown steadily over four generations of family ownership into the company we are today.  Over the years, new equipment and acquisitions have positioned us as premier supplier of specialty boxes and commodity packing to a wide variety of industries.  Current product offerings include rigid setup, folding, and corrugated boxes as well as a variety of other packaging items.

Headquartered in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Paper Box and Specialty has long been an active part of our community. Our partnerships with local economic development, civic and faith based organizations reflect a corporate culture committed to creating opportunities for our employees and improving the place we live and work.  A dedication to quality and personal service shines through in all we do.  We strive to create a positive customer experience and deliver solutions not available from other packaging manufacturers.

sustainable manufacturing practices build better boxes

Our most recent expansion was completed in 2017 and included the addition of a new distribution center and manufacturing space. This added capacity has allowed Paper Box and Specialty to turn custom orders more quickly than is customary in our industry and tailor stocking programs for individual customer needs.  The current one hundred thousand plus square foot facility houses some of the latest manufacturing technology available makes it possible for us to meet the needs of customers both large and small nationwide.

Responsible stewardship of resources is an important part of our business philosophy. We offer sustainably sourced and recycled materials for all of the products we produce and recycle 100% of the manufacturing scrap generated by our facility.  Our recovered corrugated box program currently diverts in excess of 500 tons of material from the waste stream annually.  The program creates value for our customers and brings new life to corrugated containers that would otherwise be destroyed.  Energy efficiency projects such as LED lighting, VF motor and drive upgrades, and a commitment to solar energy are project to cut the carbon footprint of our operation by 60% by 2019.
